We are currently hiring a Full Time School-Based Team Supervisor for a contract ending July 4, 2025.  Under the supervision and support of the Director of Protection Services, the School-Based Team Supervisor provides direction for the management of the School-Based Team and supervises child protection workers completing investigations and working with families on an ongoing basis.

The supervisor represents the Society with professional and community groups and participates in internal and external committees concerned with protocols, planning, and related issues. The supervisor ensures that the safety and security needs of the child and all services are carried out in accordance with the Child Youth and Family Services Act and Ministry, agency, and professional standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determines eligibility for service and response times during consultations with Screeners consistent with Ministry standards and Agency practices and assigns cases in a timely manner to child protection workers.
  • Provides supervision to child protection workers completing investigations and child protection workers providing ongoing services.
  • Provides consultation, coaching and direction to child protection staff on all aspects of the cases ensuring the Child Youth and Family Services Act and recognized professional standards, Ministry guidelines, and Society policies are followed.
  • Provides regular supervision and team meetings to ensure service recipient, clinical and administrative matters are attended to in a timely and professional manner.
  • Partners with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board to support and strengthen existing collaboration.
  • Partners with designated Family Health Team medical practices to support and strengthen existing collaboration.
  • Organizes and facilitates community duty to report presentations.
  • Leads and strengthen Signs of Safety practices within team and agency.
  • Involved in the recruitment, orientation, and training of new staff, providing instruction on as case work theory and practice, agency policies and procedures, relevant legislation, judicial processes, etc.
  • Conducts regular and probationary period performance appraisals; Manages day-to-day staff work performance, conduct and behaviour problems through progressive discipline problems. Coordinates with the Director of Service/Human Resources on employee disciplinary where required.
  • Deals with Union representatives on day-to-day matters, administers the labour contract in conjunction with the Director of Service and Human Resources. Coordinates and communicates on grievances and acts as the first stage response in any staff grievance.
  • Participates in regular Supervisors’ meetings with the Director of Protection Services to develop agency positioning on issues of significance. Reviews and makes suggestions in the formulation of policies and decisions. Develops strategies to meet the Society’s goals.
  • Participates as necessary, in various internal agencies and external community committees on a wide variety of topics. Serves on community advisory committees dealing with subjects of concern to the Society.  Make presentations to professional and community groups to share information, promote agency services, and develop public relations for the agency.
  • Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to the principles of anti-oppressive practices and anti-racism based on justice, fairness, equity, respect of the beliefs and traditions of others.
  • Complies with agency Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Health and Safety Act, and regulations.
  • Ensure staff are in compliance with Society Health and Safety policies; the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations; and WHMIS; and apply corrective practices or disciplinary action when staff are not in compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSW degree with 5 years’ child welfare experience

 

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Child Youth and Family Services Act, Ministry standards and guidelines, agency policies and procedures and collective agreement and, demonstrated understanding of direct practice issues and the Society’s systems, services and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Human Rights code and Federal Employment Equity Legislation.
  • Well-developed leadership skills.
  • Experience in managing organizational change initiatives and leading the development and implementation of special programs, reviews and positive outcome measures.
  • Project management, policy and program development and implementation experience.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and, teaching skills; strong written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with community professionals, staff, resource parents and volunteers.
  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to identify needs, initiate, coordinate and manage the implementation of innovative solutions in response to organizational issues.
  • Excellent consultation skills at all levels within the organization.
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity seeking group is preferred.
  • Additional studies in diversity are an asset.
  • Bilingual French/English an asset.

  • Computer literate with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office and proprietary child welfare systems and programs.
  • Able to affirm and integrate in the delivery of services the Society values which reflect the Agency’s Catholic faith, heritage, culture and traditions.
  • At the time of hire, documents required will include:
    • Police clearance
    • Provincial Child Protection Record Check
    • Valid Ontario Driver’s license and acceptable drivers abstract.
