We are hiring an Assembly Team Lead to join our team in Grimsby! Successful candidates will have long-term supervising or management experience within an assembly or manufacturing setting, as well as long-term machine building/assembly experience. Automation experience is preferred.

Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, day shift with 8am start time

Rate of Pay: $35.00-$40.00/hour

Overview:

Assembly Responsibilities:

  • Report to Plant Manager
  • Accurately interpret drawings, blueprints, manuals, and/or specifications for each assembly and subassembly
  • Fit, assemble, bolt, screw, clip, solder, or otherwise fasten parts, machined parts, and components together using hand or power tools, or other equipment
  • Machine parts as needed
  • Connect cables, tubes, and wires to complete assemblies and installations
  • Identify, record, and report defects
  • Assist assemblers in resolving high-level adjustments
  • Assist with Pre-FAT testing, project closure, inspection, and evaluation
  • Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
  • Other general labour tasks as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead assembly department, including senior assemblers, assemblers and apprentices
  • Ensure assembly department members are meeting timeline and quality expectations
  • Communication and coordination with other departments, project manager, and senior management regarding project updates, issues, etc.
  • Facilitate training and development of all assembly department team members
  • Assist HR with hiring process for assembly department as needed
  • Assist with department enhancement and innovation
  • Ensure team is following Health & Safety guidelines and adhering to VTR’s mission, vision, and values
  • Other general labour tasks as required

Requirements & Prerequisites

What you’ll Bring:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of management or supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment; experience leading, organizing, and scheduling a team
  • Minimum 10 years of automation or feeder systems assembly experience
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Proven machining experience
  • Knowledge of fluid power and pneumatics
  • Mechanically inclined and strong problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to delegate tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-function team
  • Able to work and manage a team following tight deadlines
  • Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time
  • Forklift certification preferred but willing to train
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices in a manufacturing environment
