Primary Accountabilities:

  • Supports all MSA programming in executing student engagements through initiatives best suited to support the student life cycle.

  • Builds and leads a team of student experience ambassadors that focus on the execution of experiences concentrating on programming, engagement, and representing the MSA brand.

  • Oversees a student feedback program; accountable for sharing findings across the MSA while contributing to monthly reports.

  • Provides knowledge and insight of student engagement strategies while collaborating with MSA Staff, Board, students, and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the MSA Student Experience Team (Programming, Student Services, Communications, Board Members), the Mohawk community to plan student-focused experiences at all campuses.

  • Works with Student Experience Team in leading execution plans and logistics for events, workshops, activities and promotions; partnering with other staff members when necessary.

  • Champion in Interpersonal Facilitation amongst students and staff.

  • Hiring, mentoring, development, support and payroll for student experience ambassadors.

  • Create and implement risk management and safety plans.

  • Coordinates the use of all equipment, supplies and promo materials with all departments.

  • Adapting to changing responsibilities and student needs.

What you Need in Education, Experience and Training for your Department:

  • Post-secondary in Event Management, PR, Marketing or Communications and 2+ years’ practical experience or 5+ years’ experience in an event setting.

  • Experience in leading a team, providing support and mentoring.

What you Need in Training for Team MSA

  • Experience with streaming and video platforms would be an asset.

  • Experience with technical production (AV) would be an asset.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Exception organizational and multi-tasking skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Standard work hours are 35 hours per week. This may include evenings and weekends when required based on the programming calendar.

  • Able to work in a variety of event-related settings that may involve sitting, standing, lifting and transporting.

As the Engagement Specialist, you are responsible for building and leading a team of students to help execute day-to-day interpersonal student engagement initiatives to effectively inform and invite students to events, workshops, services and promotions. The kicker…the MSA is not exactly sure what this looks like!
