Hamilton Bike Share Inc. is the not-for-profit organization that operates the year-round public bike sharing system and hosts the Everyone Rides Initiative, an equity program that is designed to remove barriers to accessing bikes through subsidized membership options, programming and community engagement. The Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated individual to help Hamilton Bike Share and the Everyone Rides Initiative connect with bike share riders and community members both virtually and in-person. To support virtual engagement, you will post on social media platforms and engage with our audience, create relevant content in regular newsletters, and develop campaigns that embody and promote our brand and service. In-person engagements will involve coordinating programming at the Adaptive Bike Hub to provide riders with access to adaptive bikes, attending group rides and workshops, and representing bike share at festivals or other community events.
This is a hybrid role with a mix of remote work and on-site engagements, that will require regular evening and weekend shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Take photos, create videos, and write and post content for social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook;
- Write and format bi-weekly newsletters in Mailchimp;
- Promote sponsored activities such as Free Ride Days, sponsored hubs, and events;
- Analyze usage and demand trends to inform marketing campaigns and promotions;
- Support campaigns for the Everyone Rides Initiative, our bike share equity program;
- Outreach: attend and assist with events such as group rides, festivals, or workshops;
- Meet riders at the Adaptive Bike Hub (at scheduled times and/or by appointment) to open and close hub and set up access to adaptive bikes;
- Work with ERI Program Manager to deliver cycling education programming, including Bike Share Basics and Learn to Ride workshops with adaptive bikes and two-wheeled bike share bikes;
- Distribute equipment (adaptive bikes and helmets), adjust fit for riders, and monitor equipment for maintenance and repairs;
- Liaise with partner organizations and individual riders to manage Adaptive Bike Hub schedule, collect signed waivers, and track ridership metrics;
- Serve as an ambassador for bike share and our organization;
- Adhere to the goals and objectives of our Black Lives Matter Action Plan, particularly the actions within the Amplify section, e.g. “Seek out and share stories that help amplify Black voices, anti-racism work and lived experiences of racialized communities”;
- Other duties as required.
Requirements & Prerequisites
Requirements:
- Detail-oriented and have an eye for copy editing. You post content that is clear and free of spelling and grammatical errors;
- Comfortable using various social media platforms and their many features, including Instagram (Feed images, Reels, Stories), Twitter, and Facebook;
- A penchant for a consistent and engaging aesthetic: you like things to look good;
- Ability to take well composed photos and create and edit short videos for social media;
- Confidence riding a bike in an urban setting in order to participate in group rides;
- Strong active listening, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build bridges with new riders from diverse backgrounds;
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for programming;
- Ability to excel and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
Assets:
- Skills and experience creating Instagram Reels, Instagram Stories, GIFs, Canva (or equivalent), and formatting Mailchimp newsletters;
- Interest in and experience using Hamilton Bike Share;
- Lived experience of a disability or experience working with people with disabilities;
- Language skills relevant to the needs of our program (e.g. Arabic, Spanish, Farsi).
Please note this role may be funded by Canada Summer Jobs, and as a result to be eligible you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
