Are you a hands-on and mechanically inclined individual? If so, then consider this opportunity with the Ministry of Education, Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf and Trillium Demonstration School, Milton Campus.

The Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch oversees the policies and operation of the schools. In addition, the schools provide student lodging facilities for the pupils; provide alternative programs as part of a continuum of services offered by local school boards; establish partnerships with school boards, community organizations and other government ministries to improve educational and student lodging programs; and disseminate information to parents, staff, the medical community, the general public and other interested organizations on issues related to the education of students.

Requirements & Prerequisites

What can I expect to do in this role?
You will:

• perform mechanical repairs (e.g. locks, panic bars);
• perform minor electrical repairs (small electrical appliances, replacing wall plugs and switches);
• do minor carpentry work (doors, windows, walls, building shelving etc.);
• replace filters and maintain motors in heating and ventilation equipment;
• correct basic plumbing malfunctions;
• perform ground keeping duties as required;

• assist in the maintenance prevention program;
• paint, move and set up furniture and equipment;
• availability to work on-call hours as required.
How do I qualify?
Maintenance skills:
• demonstrated mechanical ability to do minor repairs of electrical, plumbing, furniture and machinery;
• experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment and buildings;
• ability to follow basic drawings, written and verbal instructions;
• knowledge and experience in the use of various hand, power tools and equipment.
General skills:
• good interpersonal skills;
• physical ability to move and set up furniture and equipment.
