Job Description

Employment Hamilton (EH) has delivered employment and training services since 1972. Funded by Employment Ontario / Fedcap Canada, EH supports job seekers and employers through counselling, job development, and access to training programs.

Role Summary
The Employment Counsellor supports job seekers to prepare for, obtain, and maintain employment. This includes assessment, action planning, job search support, employer engagement, and ongoing follow-up in a performance-based, documentation-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Client Service & Case Management
• Conduct client assessments and develop individualized Employment Action Plans
• Provide job search support (resume development, interview preparation, job targeting)
• Identify and address barriers to employment through referrals and supports
• Maintain an active caseload and provide ongoing follow-up

Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate, timely case notes and records in database systems
• Complete all required documentation to meet Employment Ontario / Fedcap standards
• Track client progress, outcomes, and required follow-up activities

Employer & Community Engagement
• Liaise with employers to identify opportunities and support placements
• Match and market suitable candidates to employers
• Maintain awareness of local labour market trends and opportunities
• Connect with community partners to support client outcomes

Team Contribution
• Participate in team meetings and share information on opportunities and client needs
• Support workshops or group sessions as required

Work Environment & Expectations
• Full-time, 35.5 hours per week
• Standard hours: Monday–Thursday 8:30–5:00, Friday 8:30–3:00
• Occasional evening or off-site activities (e.g., workshops or employer meetings)
• Role involves managing a high-volume caseload with defined service and documentation expectations

Compensation & Benefits
• Starting salary: $923/week (~$48,000 annually)
• Salary review after 4-month probation
• Benefits eligibility reviewed after 4 months

Requirements & Prerequisites

Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset or equivalent experience
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines
• Comfortable with documentation and data entry in structured systems
• Ability to build rapport with a diverse client population
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook; Excel an asset)
• Knowledge of the Hamilton labour market and community resources is an asset
• Second language is an asset
