COMMUNITY WORKER - FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT (Youth summer job)
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will assist in the delivery of services of the Financial Empowerment Project (FEP) to increase financial independence of people who are economically vulnerable in Hamilton. This includes the assistance of direct support to people to access financial benefits, collection of program data and educational initiatives. The candidates must meet the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, including being between the ages of 15 and 30.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the delivery of financial education webinars, aimed at increasing financial knowledge and access to financial resources.
- Coordinate and facilitate fraud prevention phone workshops with seniors.
- Assist in data collection and maintenance of a database.
- Promote the project through outreach strategies including social media.
- Provide administrative support as needed.
Requirements & Prerequisites
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education (completed or currently enrolled) or equivalent.
- Practice within the spirit of the SPRC’s Vision and Mission statements.
- Willingness to conduct work outside of standard office hours when required.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word and other Microsoft products, as well as digital and social media.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including pleasant and engaging telephone manner.
- Registration with Canada Revenue Agency’s CVITP program is an asset but not required.

- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
How To Apply
Job Type: Summer Position, Full-Time (30 hours per week)
Contract Duration: June 7th to August 6th (9 weeks)
Salary: $16.45 per hour
