Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Post-Secondary Research Assistant is a youth summer position funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. The position focuses on research and dissemination of community trends. The candidates must meet the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, including being between the ages of 15 and 30.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyse data from various datasets using Excel.
  • Use data visualization tools to create charts and infographics.
  • Prepare reports based on research findings.
  • Working with community partners to collaborate on sourcing additional datasets.
  • Key informant interviews to deepen quantitative analysis with qualitative data.
  • Write blog posts to provide insights and analysis of the data trends.
  • Assist with the dissemination of reports on website and in social media.

Requirements & Prerequisites

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education (completed or currently enrolled) from any of the programs areas of social sciences, urban planning or public health, or equivalent work and life experience.
  • Experience in descriptive data analysis and Microsoft Excel functions including formulas and charts.
  • Understanding of social justice issues including inequality, discrimination and inclusion.
  • Website and Social media experience.
  • Excellent writing skills and communication skills to work with partners and colleagues.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

CANADA SUMMER JOBS INITIATIVE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

 

Job Type: Summer Position, Full-Time (30 hours per week)

Contract Duration: June 7th – August 6th  (9 weeks)   Salary: $16.45 per hour
