Summary: !<<< Serbian-speaking Caregiver or Personal Support Worker Needed to assist with meal preparation and companionship for an elderly gentleman >>>!
Location: Hamilton
Term: Due to the uncertainty inherent in this industry and in this context, the end date of employment cannot be determined at this time.
Hours: Approximately 6 hours per week
Days: 2 days a week, at your discretion (Pick one schedule)
Choice 1: Wednesday + Friday
or
Choice 2: Tuesday + Thursday
Shifts:
Applicant must be able to work one of these two shift schedules, as below (Pick one schedule)
Choice 1: 11 am to 2 pm
or
Choice 2: 4 pm to 7 pm
Position: Companion Caregiver or Personal Support Worker
Rate of pay: $17 to $18 per hour, based upon experience and/or education
Bonus: A completion bonus eligible at end of month
Location: Hamilton (Intersection: King Street East and Rosedale Avenue)
Start date: ASAP
Dress code: Business casual attire (Uniform is an employee badge with lanyard)
Qualifications
- Relevant education
- High school diploma
- First Aid + CPR (Current and valid)
- Personal Support Worker (PSW)certification orHealth Care Assistant (HCA) certification
o or internationally educated nurse
o or current student of PSW/HCA/nursing
- Health and safety requirements
- Vulnerable Sector police check (Current and valid)
- Covid vaccination (Completely vaccinated – 2 doses)
- Flu shots (Annual dose)
- Experience
- Experience is nice to have, but not needed
- Experience as a PSW, HCA, or Nurse is preferred
- Education is also accepted in lieu of experience
- Willingness to travel
- Take public transportation (Required)
- Or, have access to a motor vehicle, license, and insurance (Recommended)
- Work ethic
- Friendly, courteous, respectful, compassionate, tolerant, and patient
- Punctual, reliable, strong work ethic, high moral code
- Demonstrates flexibility, sound judgment, and cultural sensitivity in evaluating and responding to client needs
- Ability to motivate and promote resident participation in social, recreational, educational, health, and household activities
- Must cooperate with management field audits; be open to constructive criticism and commit to ongoing coaching opportunities
- Professional working proficiency in the English language
- Must possess an email address, a smartphone, and a mobile data plan
- Nice to have, but not mandatory
- Dementia/Alzheimer knowledge

Job description
We provide:
- Companionship and Homemaking Services – meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, errand services, recreational activities and companionship/conversation
- Personal Care Services – bathing, grooming, mobility, transferring and positioning, feeding, incontinence care and medication reminders
- Housekeeping Services – vacuuming, dusting, mopping and sweeping floors, bathrooms and kitchens
- Transportation Services – taking clients to doctor appointments, shopping, etc.
- We mainly service clients in their home, yet we also serve them at hospitals, retirement homes and long term care facilities
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide one-on-one care with Comfort Keepers clients
- Follow guidelines of the Client Service/Care Plan
- Ability to manage own schedule and get to and from clients on own
- Participate in mandatory team meetings and trainings
- Comply with Comfort Keepers policies and procedures
- Document incidents and changes in client status to management team
- Document in clients’ program files when appropriate
- Understand the operations of the emergency response system and respond professionally to all emergency situations
General
- This is ideal for those who want relevant experience in health care/home health care
- Good performers are eligible for references to help them achieve their academic and professional goals
- It’s also nice for those who want to pick up extra shifts, cover call-outs, and make money on the side
- It can accommodate your work/school/personal schedules
- We service clients 24 hours a day 7 days a week
- Shifts begin and end at all different times of the day and night
- Jobs can last days, weeks, months, or longer (Nature of this industry is all temporary work, part-time)
- Caregivers are requested to work a minimum of 2 to 3 hours, up to 12 hours per shift for most shifts
