Job Description

RECE Position- St. Matthew’s Children Centre (CUPE Local 5167)

St. Matthew’s House (SMH) is a charitable not-for-profit multi-service agency. Services include childcare, emergency food, crisis intervention and outreach to seniors and vulnerable persons to support independent living. Clients include persons with limited or no income, persons living in poor health or with chronic conditions, persons of all ages and newcomers.

St. Matthew’s Children’s Centre is accepting applications for RECE positions in our program. Successful candidates must have knowledge of Emergent Curriculum, the Early Learning Framework and the pedagogy document “How Does Learning Happen?” and will possess the following qualifications/ experience:

  • ECE diploma or equivalent and RECE designation
  • Valid Standard First aid/CPR Level C certification
  • A genuine love and commitment to the ECE profession and work with young children and families
  • Experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers will be an asset
  • Working knowledge of emergent curriculum, ELECT and HDLH Principles
  • Possess excellent professional and best practice skills with colleagues, families and other professionals
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a committed and dedicated team
  • Friendly and sensitive individual that can relate well with children, staff and parents.
  • Ability to carry out the physical duties and tasks of a child care’s daily routines and schedule
  • A clear health and criminal reference check is necessary prior to employment

Requirements & Prerequisites

Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of child development
  • Provide experiences that engage children in active, creative and meaningful exploration, play and inquiries.
  • Ensure the health, safety and physical well-being of the children and support children’s healthy development.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children,
  • Broad understanding of current childcare issues, particularly children from diverse economic backgrounds and those with special needs and their families
  • Flexible work schedule
