Job Description

Located at the head of Lake Ontario and within the municipalities of Burlington and Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada and one of the nation’s earliest nature sanctuaries. Comprising some 2700 acres of protected wetlands, botanical collections, parkland and display gardens, and within easy access of millions of nature-starved urban citizens, RBG dedicates its expertise in horticulture, conservation, science and education to connect people, plants and place for the purpose of nurturing and preserving healthy growing life on our planet. RBG directs its efforts, and seeks the support of individuals and organizations, to realize its vision of a world in which everyone is awake to the beauty, diversity and necessity of plants, and from that consciousness more actively works together to protect and preserve plant species and habitats and, by extension, our planet.

Royal Botanical Gardens is looking for energetic, customer-oriented people to add to our Membership team. As a Membership Representative you will be a friendly and knowledgeable ambassador for the Gardens and the first point of contact on-site for membership inquiries and sales.

Hours: 5-25 hours per week. Evenings, alternating weekends statutory holiday shifts are required.

Expected Starting Date: Immediately

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Membership Manager, the Membership Representative is responsible for:

  • Providing excellent customer service to RBG members and potential members, in  person or by phone
  • The frontline fulfillment of membership sales and renewals
  • Maintaining, updating and creating new member accounts in database system
  • Processing cash, cheque, debit and credit card transactions
  • Tracking member admissions at RBG Main Centre
  • Daily reporting of membership sales and admissions
  • Daily reconciliation of sales
  • Development administrative support as required, filing, various data entry, mailings etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

 


Requirements & Prerequisites

The successful candidates must possess the following qualifications and requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years customer service experience
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years sales experience
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Office 365
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Must be organized and have a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and make appropriate decisions when challenged
  • A responsible, mature, outgoing team player who can work well as part of a team and with little supervision
  • An ability to speak informatively about botany/horticulture is an asset
  • Working knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge Database System is considered an asset
  • Must have a valid class G driver’s license
  • CPR and first-aid certification is an asset
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset
  • A Police Record Check will be required of the successful applicant at their expense
  • Must provide proof of vaccination status
