Requirements & Prerequisites

Job Summary: Assists the kitchen supervisor with the production in the gourmet kitchen.

Job Duties
Places finished products into the appropriate coolers for shipping
Must have knowledge of all kitchen equipment
Performs the final mixing and assembly of kitchen products
Responsible for entering ingredient lot numbers and best before dates on recipes
Retrieves raw materials and equipment from freezer/stockroom for production
Ensures product quality and consistency
Prepares raw materials for production in the gourmet kitchen
Packs and weighs salads
Cleans and cuts vegetables for production
Assists in final production of finished goods
Cleaning of dishes, equipment, machinery and floors
Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment, (operating tilt fryers, steam kettles, Hobart mixers and oven, etc).
Use of knives
May also assist in other departments
Responsible to operate within the health and safety guidelines
Other duties as required by management

Requirements
1 year experience as a cook/chef
Leadership skills are an asset
Comfortable working with raw meat products (beef, pork, chicken)
Knife skills are a strong asset
Ability to stand and perform repetitive work for extended periods of time
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Comfortable with assisting other departments as necessary

Working Conditions and Environment
Meat packaging and food manufacturing plant
Physically demanding and fast paced work environment
Early morning start (6 am Monday to Friday)
Refrigerated (cold) environment
Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
