Food Prep and Kitchen Support Worker
Job Description
De Mazenod Door Outreach, a ministry of St. Patrick Catholic Church located in Inner-City Hamilton is currently seeking a skilled and confident individual to be a Food Prep & Kitchen Support Worker. This position is to provide support to staff and volunteers working within an Outreach commercial kitchen setting, preparing meals for marginalized and impoverished individuals. Candidate must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends. If you have experience in the food industry, we urge you to apply.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with set up and running of a fast paced outreach kitchen
• Assisting with preparation of meals twice daily
• Breaking down and packaging of items necessary
• Assisting with daily clean up of kitchen and preparation for next day
• Complete documentation as required
• Follow policies and procedures of the Parish and Diocese of Hamilton ie. Confidentiality etc.
• To attend and complete all necessary training as required by position
Requirements & Prerequisites
• Work or education in the field of food services is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with a diverse population
• Understanding the importance of processing times, customer service, organization & flexibility
• Current Food Handlers certificate is preferred
• Current Judicial Matters and Criminal Record Check will be required
• Ability to work independently and/or within a team setting
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb, bend etc.
• Ability to follow direction
• Ability and willingness to adapt to changing environments/situations
• Volunteer experience is desirable
Job Type – 12 Week Temporary Contract – Full Time, 35 Hours
Salary – $16.50 per hour
Location – Hamilton Centre
As this is a Summer Employment Program opportunity, applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and be legally entitled to work in Canada; to apply. Days and hours to be determined. Candidate must be willing to work alternate days and weekends.
