Early Child Development Specialist
Job Description
The Early Child Development Worker provides children (ages 2 to 6) with opportunities, activities and environments that stimulate healthy development. The Early Child Development Worker works with family members, caregivers, providers, agencies, and communities to assist them in recognizing and supporting the developmental needs of children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with children and their families and caregivers, assessing and responding supportively.
- Develop, plan, implement and evaluate programs that create environments that foster healthy physical, cognitive, social, emotional and creative growth and development in children 2 to 6 years of age. These will meet appropriate legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate, current client records, data and electronic information in accordance with the Centre’s policies, best practice. Complete and submit reports as required and in accordance with the timelines and standards established by the Centre. Adhere to the Centre’s core competencies and the CHC Model of Care.
- Support and strengthen the child-rearing skills and capacities of families and caregivers. Work to strengthen the community supports, by advocating for the policies and practices that promote healthy development of children and their families.
- Assist team members to work in a manner consistent with principles of equity and anti-discrimination to support the healthy development of children and families within the context of their culture, the community, and the larger society.
- Engage and provide supervision to graduates, students and/or learners as appropriate and in accordance with the Centre’s standards and commitment to learning.
- Actively participate in the Centre’s quality improvement and quality assurance plans.
- Work within an anti-racism, anti-oppression, culturally sensitive, language appropriate framework and work as a part of an interprofessional team at the Centre.
Requirements & Prerequisites
Qualifications:
- Early Child Education Diploma or relevant certification, special needs experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children ages 2 to 6 years and their families.
- Strong assessment and planning skills and knowledge of local resources
- Ability to plan and organize activities and services for children ages 2 to 6 years and their families.
- Experience with individual and group activities and experience working with a multidisciplinary team and/or in a community setting an asset.
- Ability to work independently.
- Good organizational and communication skills and working knowledge of computer software programs.
- Knowledge or understanding of anti-racism, cultural sensitivity, language appropriateness.
