Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice is seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Executive Officer to take our respected Hospice to its next stage of growth. Working collaboratively with our committed staff, volunteers and community partners, the new CEO will be the leader of our two-site hospice model which includes our current palliative care and bereavement programs and a new pediatric hospice being built in partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences Center that is currently in a $20M Capital campaign.
Along with our 10-bed adult hospice we currently offer bereavement support and services for adults, teens, and children. With over 60 staff and almost 200 volunteers Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice functions as a supportive community and campus of care that has served over 1700 families in Hamilton and surrounding areas since 2007. The new pediatric hospice will greatly expand our current services to include a 10-bed facility along with new palliative care services and support for children and families.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ideal candidate is a collaborative, visionary leader, who will champion our 5-year strategic plan, which will allow us to boldly develop new resources and expand our organizational footprint. Leading with compassion while managing risk, the new CEO will also safeguard the quality and efficiency of our programs and services during this expansion while continuing to ensure we are focused on the needs of our patients/clients.
An excellent relationship manager, the new CEO will build internal and external relationships that will strengthen our Hospice’s unique value proposition in a manner that will advance our profile, increase revenue, and ensure overall sustainability. This is an exciting time to join our Hospice as we build on our current success and evolve to meet vital needs in our community.
The new CEO will primarily work at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice site on Hamilton Mountain.
ABOUT DR. BOB KEMP HOSPICE
History of Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice
Nearly thirty years ago, Dr. Bob Kemp, a family physician, realized the need for Hospice Palliative Care in the Greater Hamilton area. Facilities south of the border had left him impressed and excited by the services available to those at end of life and he wanted to be able to offer this support to his own patients and their families.
In the early days, the hospice was held in the basement of the Church of the Redeemer and offered a Day Program once a week. In 1999, Dr. Bob Kemp and his wife, Mildred, donated their property on Wardrope Avenue, in Stoney Creek, and the hospice found its first real home.
By 2002, the hospice was able to offer services such as Day Program, a Volunteer Visiting Program, and bereavement support programs for children and adults. With all these key programs in place, our next goal was to open a residential hospice. Thanks to many generous donations, this goal came to fruition in July 2007 and Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice is situated land, donated by Iris Berryman.
Our goal is to provide individuals and families living with a life-threatening illness excellence in care, whether that be at home, in hospital, a long-term care facility or at our very own adult in residence hospice. Hospice is about celebrating life and quality of living. All our services, including our in-home residence care, are provided at no cost to our clients or their families.

Inspired by the vision of Dr. Bob Kemp, we compassionately serve the emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of individuals living with a progressive life-limiting illness until the end of life. We collaboratively lead, shape and deliver compassionate Hospice Palliative Care.

Our Services
Since 2007 our 10-bed adult hospice has been home to more than 1700 families. A referral to stay in our adult hospice palliative care program can be made when the prognosis is approximately three months or less. Our team of PSW’s, RPN’s, MRP’s and RN’s and Dr.’s strive to provide whole-person care- body, mind, and spirit- with a multi-disciplinary team who accompany the resident and their family through the course of their journey.
Grief can be one of life’s most difficult journeys and one that you need not travel alone. Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space for patients/clients to share their story with others who have experienced a similar loss. Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice is dedicated to providing quality, volunteer-based bereavement support services to individuals and their families in Hamilton, free of charge.
Our 1:1 peer mutual support program provides clients with our trained bereavement volunteers, who have experienced a similar loss experience. Clients and volunteers usually meet once a week for approximately 12 sessions.
Camp Keaton is a bereavement camp for children and teenagers ages 7-17 who are grieving a significant death. Since 2013, we have been offering this children’s bereavement camp because we know that children grieve differently and often through play. Camp Keaton provides a traditional, fun, and high-energy camp experience, combined with grief education and emotional support. The camp is staffed by bereavement counselors and community volunteers professionally trained by child bereavement experts.
We offer two programs for Day Wellness, one for children and their families and one for adults. These programs are community funded and available to individuals residing in Greater Hamilton who are living with a life-threatening illness at no cost. This is a place and space for participants to be themselves in a caring and compassionate home-like setting. At Day Program you will find rest and relaxation, supportive relationships, therapeutic value, and even just plain fun! The focus is on affirming life and living it to the fullest. Our program is coordinated and staffed by a Palliative Care Registered Practical Nurse and supported by our trained hospice volunteer team and certified complementary therapy practitioners.
