Director of Development
Job Description
DVSA’s Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the school’s fundraising activities including the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, online giving, special events, and capital campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct specific campaigns:
- The Annual campaign
- Capital campaigns
- Develop a range of programs including identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors.
- Major gifts
- Planned giving
- Online campaigns
- Stewardship: meeting with prospective donors and supporters on a basis to establish and maintain relationships, recognition program for all levels of gifts.
- Oversee grant seeking including research, writing, and reporting (government, foundations, corporate).
- Oversee fundraising special events including supervision of staff, contractors, event design and development.
- Oversee prospect research.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Governors
- Strategy development
- Program planning, evaluation, and reporting
- Fundraising training for board, staff, and volunteers.
- Develop strategies, policies, procedures
- Program budget development
- Staff Board Development Committee meetings.
- Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
- Oversee creation of publications to support fund raising activities.
- Maintain gift recognition programs.
- Represent DVSA within the community (media, events, speaking engagements).
- Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Requirements & Prerequisites
- Experience working in non-profits, ideally in the visual arts and/or cultural sector.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and writing skills.
- Have demonstrated knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques.
- Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers.
- Goal driven and proven ability to initiate donor visits and make fundraising calls.
- Solid organizational skills: attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening abilities.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
