General Farm Worker
Job Description
The De Mazenod Farm is a project of St. Patrick Parish, launched in the Spring of 2021 to support the poor & marginalized in inner-city Hamilton. The 19-acre Farm, located in rural Ancaster, grows produce and raises egg-laying chickens and honeybees to provide for Hamilton’s hungry who visit the De Mazenod Door Outreach ministry, 365 days a year. We are currently seeking a general farm worker. This position is to provide support to the Farm Manager, staff and volunteers. While the position is for Monday to Friday, the candidate must be able to work a variety of days including weekends, if necessary. Requirements & Prerequisites
Responsibilities:
• Assist with overall operations of farm
• Assist with planting, cultivating and crop harvesting activities
• Help support the Farm Manager with garden/produce, chickens, apiary/bees, and maintenance
• Ability to make decisions based on sound judgement
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs,
• Ability to squat, climb, bend, dig etc.
• Assist with daily cleanup of grounds
• Follow policies and procedures of the Parish and Diocese of Hamilton including confidentiality, mask wearing etc.
• Follow all direction given by the Farm Manager or their representative
• Provide own transportation to & from site, daily
• Must be physically able
• Current Judicial Matters and Criminal Record Check will be required from HPS
The ideal candidate will possess experience and skills in:
• Small Farm Work or education in the field of agriculture is desired
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Understanding the importance of processing times
• Ability to work independently and/or within a team setting
• Ability and willingness to adapt to changing environments/situations (weather)
• Volunteer experience is helpful
How To Apply
Job Type – One, 12 Week Temporary Contract – Full Time, 35 Hours per week & One, 8 Week Temporary Contract
Salary – $17.20 per hour
Location – Glancaster Road, Ancaster
As this is a Canada Summer Jobs Summer Employment Program opportunity, applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and be legally entitled to work in Canada; to apply. Monday to Friday, however, candidate must be willing to work alternate days or hours, if needed.
