6 month contract

Job Description
The HOMES program provides supportive housing to persons who have been homeless and are living with a mental illness. Team members support tenants to reach personal goals and to have a satisfying and meaningful life in the community. An opportunity exists to join our Mental Health team as a Community Support Cleaning Coach.
- Work to make a difference in the lives of tenants living at various apartment buildings in the community (Hamilton)
- Provide hands-on assistance to tenants with independent living skills in the community – specifically cleaning, laundry, and organization
- Be an integral part of the mental health team that supports and advocates for the clients
- Work collaboratively with the tenants in their home and in a range of community settings
Requirements & Prerequisites
Qualifications
- A post-secondary education and experience in social services, personal support, and/or life skills training
- A minimum of two years’ experience in mental health, health care, developmental services and/or concurrent disorders is required
- A ‘recovery orientation’ and ‘consumer driven’ style of practice
- The ability to work independently, take initiative and think creatively
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse and complex health and psycho-social needs
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently in client homes and community settings
- Excellent interpersonal
- Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
- Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
- Hours of work will normally be day shifts with occasional hours beyond this, as required to meet tenant needs
