Job Description

Good Shepherd Centres Hamilton, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, strives to enhance the quality of life for all who seek assistance and support in our community. Opportunities currently exist at The Good Shepherd Centre in the role of:

1 Full Time Cook
1 Temporary Full Time Cook

In a compassionate, hospitable and non-judgmental manner the Cook under supervision will be responsible for the preparation and provision of all meals and snacks for the Guests of our Emergency Shelter, Community Hot Meal Program and Catering functions.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to the mission values of availability, flexibility adaptability hospitality and dignity with sensitivity to the issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions and developmental disabilities. Minimum academic requirement is a 2-year diploma normally acquired from a recognized Culinary Management/Food Services Program, or equivalent. Must have experience in large quantity cooking in a commercial kitchen, be able to plan meals, rotate stock, and utilize donated and purchased foods creatively, nutritiously and attractively. Food Handlers Certification and Certification in CPR or a willingness to be certified is also required. Must have a valid drivers’ license and clean abstract. Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset.
