Job Description

Good Shepherd Centres Hamilton, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, strives to enhance the quality of life for all who seek assistance and support in our community. An Opportunity currently exists at Good Shepherd Centres, Women’s Services in the role of:

Child and Youth Worker Summer Student
(8 Week Contract-35 hrs. per week)

Working with women and children who have experienced violence and/or abuse.

Responsibilities include:

• Support with Learning Effective Anti-Violence in Families (LEAF) program
• Support with Mother In Mind (MIM) Program
• Group planning and preparation, support and group clean up
• Summer Activity planning, preparation and support
• Child care
• Supporting with daily operations in the residential program
• Support child safety issues in the facility and to ensure that child’s play areas are safe, clean environments that provide a variety of appropriate activities, recreational opportunities and toys.
• To observe all health and safety rules and regulations and to work in a manner that minimizes risk to all service users, staff and others as well as to the property of Good Shepherd Centres.
• To adhere to all service user contacts involving children for concerns under the Child and Family Services Act.
• To respect and protect the confidentiality of service user information as well as all other information that is sensitive in nature to the operation of the program, the Good Shepherd Centres, staff, volunteers and others.
• To carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission and Values of Good Shepherd Centres.
• To provide service in a dignified and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd Centres and which integrates feminist anti-oppression/anti-racism frameworks.
• To provide support to staff when assisting mothers and their children including but not limited to shelter orientation, intake and assessment, child safety and safety planning, education and counselling, feminist, racially, ethnically and culturally appropriate, non-violent therapeutic play opportunities, referral to community agencies and advocacy.
• French Language is an asset

The successful candidate must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
