Job Description

This position will assist in the delivery of frontline services of the Financial Empowerment Project (FEP) to increase financial independence of people who are economically vulnerable in Hamilton. This includes the assistance of direct support to people to access financial benefits, make informed financial decisions, and improve their financial security and well-being. The project also contains an educational component requiring the development and facilitation of workshops.


Requirements & Prerequisites

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide frontline Financial Empowerment services, including tax filing and benefits applicati
  • Assist in the delivery of financial education workshops, aimed at increasing financial knowledge and access to financial resources.
  • Assist in policy development and advocacy to address systemic barriers to accessing benefits.
  • Work in a team environment and engage with community partners and volunteers.
  • Assist in data collection and maintenance of a database.
  • Promote the project through outreach strategies including social media.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field.
  • Ability to compete tax filing cases and provide financial education and counselling.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and work with from people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cultures and perspectives.
  • General knowledge of community and social services in Hamilton.
  • Practice within the spirit of the SPRC’s Vision and Mission statements.
  • Proficiency in Word and other Microsoft products, as well as digital and social media.
  • An ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Registration with Canada Revenue Agency’s CVITP program is an asset.
  • Ability to speak a language other than English is an asset.
