Program Coordinator Pre Apprenticeship
Job Description
Develops, coordinates and promotes the Pre-Apprenticeship Program for women, trans and non-binary participants; a program that provides the tools and skills needed for participants to succeed in a non-traditional occupation – the skilled trades.
- Plans and implements technical trades training in sector specific training workshops including academic upgrading, safety certification, and hands on training towards level 1 certification in conjunction with Mohawk College;
- Facilitates outreach, intake and recruitment for pre-apprenticeship training programs and retains participants into the Pre-Apprenticeship Program in consultation with Manager;
- Promotes and markets the Pre-Apprenticeship Program; working with the Development department;
- Follows Ministry guidelines and requirements for funding and increases participant’s knowledge and training in the skilled trades;
- Coordinates and completes curriculum development, facilitation and program delivery
- Works with participants in the setting and attaining of goals and provides coaching in both group and individual settings;
- Persuades and influences employers to hire participants into job placements, raising awareness of the importance of a diverse and inclusive workforce; acts a liaison between service providers and employers to secure incentives for placement and training funding;
- Engages and establishes program partnerships with employers, mentors, community partners and Training Delivery Agency regarding education upgrading, job placement/apprenticeship opportunities and progress during job placement/apprenticeship;
- Maintains regular contact with stakeholders to discuss the participant’s progress in the job placement/apprenticeship to ensure that participants are successful;
- Reviews and evaluates results and recommendations from participants and stakeholders; shares program outcomes with Manager and stakeholders;
- Ensures that policies and procedures are up to date, and that best practices are incorporated at all times;
- Develops and implements appropriate systems to ensure monitoring of projects and initiatives in compliance with work schedules, outcomes and participant requirements;
- Connects and assists in building strong and positive relationships with participants in a cohesive and respectful environment; engagement and follow up with participants of the program;
- Nurtures and maintains relationships with partners, employers and volunteers;
- Maintains accurate records, statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken and outcomes achieved; reporting results to Manager;
- Works with limited pieces of client/participant’s confidential data and ensures that such data is stored in accordance with YWCA and funder policies;
- Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
- Perform other duties as required.

- Completion of 2 years’ college in business administration, career development or human resources, or equivalent;
