Job Summary

Responsible for the overall management of the Bistro Department including the dining area. This role will ensure that the performance of the department is optimized from the perspective of promotional conformity, sales performance, wage control, and all other factors that may affect gross operating profit. This position is a full time permanent position located at our Hamilton Mountain store. Hours fluctuate depending on store needs, but will include some days, evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all customers are served in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Assign/delegate responsibilities to lead personnel and customer service associates within your department.
  • Supervise the various departments within the bistro including; the Pizza and Panini station, Soup and Salad Station, Hot Food Station and Bar Area.
  • Staff the various stations in the Bistro in conjunction with the store manager. This will include conducting interviews and making hiring decisions.
  • Assume overall responsibility for daily menu planning and posting
  • Ensure best practices to maximize freshness while minimizing waste
  • Oversee and manage the operating expenses of the department including labour, utilities and supplies.
  • Maintain safe operating procedures / best practices for the well being of all associates
  • Ensure a high level of organization
  • Ensure best practices for the maintenance of a clean work environment in all areas of the bistro (dining room, cash area, drink merchandising area, prep area, dish area etc.)
  • Support Communication between content from corporate intranet and your team
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to all members of your team
  • Manage your team members by using progressive discipline strategies, including verbal and written communication – together with the assistance of the store manager / assistant manager
  • Assess team leadership strengths with biannual performance reviews
  • Support the company Vision and Mission statements with an emphasis on excellence in Customer Service
  • Support promotional planning through optimal ordering, merchandising and demo.
  • Provide ongoing quality control and quality assurance to ensure the best quality product for our customers.
  • Attend regular corporate meetings for the purpose of communication of promotional and operational strategies
  • Participate in in-store department head meetings for the purpose of reviewing sales, establishing goals and addressing operational issues
  • Relay operational issues to the store manager
  • Respond to customer concerns / issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Manage and track credits for office, vendors and suppliers
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements & Prerequisites

Requirements

  • One of the following credentials: Red Seal Certified, Certified Executive Chef, Certified Chef De Cuisine, Certified Sous Chef or Certified Culinarian.
  • Experience working in a management role is considered an asset
  • A fundamental working knowledge of all equipment in the Bistro department.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to lead a team; ability to communicate and motivate team members effectively
  • Participate in rotational store supervision duties as a member of the key holding team.
  • A proven passion for customer service
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the store.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Analytical mindset – be capable of identifying various trends within a sales report using company-generated reports and/or in-store generated reports
  • Functional computer skills in the following, Excel, Word, etc.

Essential Job Functions

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time. below shoulders and squat.
  • Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and
  • Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
