Job Description

CIC offers the Total Care Education System to support students to achieve their goal of getting into a post-secondary institution of their choice. Our Total Care Education provides services that can support international students to meet their Academic, Social, Emotional and Physical needs.
This position is responsible for regularly monitoring, maintaining and proficiently completing assigned tasks for of the maintenance department to support all Columbia International College (CIC) managed buildings and leased properties. The Maintenance Worker is also responsible for all routine repair work and maintenance duties, provides outstanding client service and ensures attention to detail with excellent results in a quick and efficient way.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Completes repair work including but not limited to; clean up; moving and assembling of furniture; changing lights, doors and windows. Minor plumbing; showers, faucets, toilets, bedroom HVAC unit repairs and filter changes; dry-walling; painting; pool monitoring and work on special projects as assigned
- Responds promptly, courteously and appropriately to staff requests for services, issued using ticket system, and completes any requests in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Ensures school buildings and residences are in move-in condition and ready for new student residents at least 24 hours prior to arrival.
- Communicates with the Maintenance Supervisor for needed advice, product information, and quality assurance guidance, including the overall condition of the furnishings and state of the facilities of all buildings.
- Interacting with students and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable provincial and federal labour relations, as well as health & safety adherence
- General grounds keeping duties as needed, including coordinating of cleaning, snow removal and landscaping operations.
Specific Job Skills:
- Ability and knowledge in operating power tools, hand tools, and other tools required to assist with completion of required tasks.
- Must be able to use mobile technology
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Organizational and time management skills
- Decision making ability
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary diploma in a building services field or licensed trade is preferred.
- 2+ years of previous related experience is an asset
- Positive attitude leveraging their initiative to approach situations proactively.
- Able to work well under pressure, juggle competing tasks and work efficiently against deadlines.
- Able to multitask, take direction and follow up with supervisor as tasks are completed.
Additional Requirements:
- Represent CIC in a professional manner.
- Communicate proficiently so must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
- Commitment to obtaining additional qualifications or licenses as required.
- Candidates to be able to move physically, carry, lift, regularly stand and bend repetitively for extended periods at given periods.
Hours of Work:
- Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate operational needs.
- Expected to work at and rotate among different buildings as required.
