Job Description

Coordinator of Operations (Assistant Manager)

The Coordinator of Operations will be involved in new store construction, including demolition and set-up. Once the store is opened the coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a home improvement retail store including back-office support and providing leadership to staff and volunteers.

Please note that the salary for this position is TBD (depending on experience)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all day-to-day activities for the Office, Cash, Floor and Warehouse departments
  • Provide leadership to the team regarding effective operation of the sales floor, warehouse, and cash desk
  • Communicate with customers regarding online sales through Kijiji, Facebook and Shopify, as well as fulfilling orders
  • Provide orientation to new volunteers as well as contributing to the planning of volunteer scheduling and engagement
  • Attend, participate, and lead team meetings as required
  • Opening and closing of cash, including maintaining store float and reconciling end of day reports
  • Assist customers through the in-store checkout process including ringing up purchases, accepting payment and making change
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of merchandise
  • Merchandise product and contribute to the cleanliness of the store
  • Facilitate walk-in donations from public including assessments and recording donations
  • Book appointments for donation drop-offs
  • Assist the truck driver when needed
  • Participate as an active member of the Safety Committee
  • Provide customer, donor, and volunteer support when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Floor Support Associates

Floor Support Associates are responsible for providing prompt, professional, friendly, and accurate support in all interactions with customers, staff, and volunteers. Floor Support personnel will be participating in all facets of daily operations, from handling donations and processing to customer service and sales. The Floor Support Associates may be involved in the new store construction, including demolition and set-up.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and collect donations from customers in a safe manner
  • Clean, test, repackage, refurbish and repair donated items
  • Ensure the accurate pricing of products, prior to movement on the sales floor
  • Assist in customer service on the floor as well as at the cash desk as required
  • Manage the open and close process of the POS, including maintaining store float and reconciling end of day reports when needed
  • Answering of phone and helping customers in a friendly manner as needed
  • Keep the receiving bay organized, neat and moving product to floor
  • Transport metals for recycling, and refuse to the waste transfer station
  • Actively pursue safety improvements, keep workspace areas clean and tidy and report any hazards
  • Provide direction to volunteers for a friendly engaging experience
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements & Prerequisites

Coordinator Operations (Assistant Manager)

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years’ experience leading a team in a busy retail setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer applications
  • Previous experience at a donated goods store would be considered an asset
  • G class Ontario driver’s license
  • Successfully passes a criminal background check
  • Post-secondary diploma preferred
  • Reliable, self-starter with desire to learn
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry products weighing less than 5 lbs.
  • Will occasionally need to lift and carry products weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of racks/carts weighing 50 to 250 pounds using 4 – 10 lbs. of force
  • Continuous standing, frequent walking, stooping, bending and twisting and occasional kneeling needed to: handle/inspect merchandise, validate work processes, train/coach the team, and assist customers

 

Floor Support Associates

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a physically demanding job preferred
  • Previous experience providing customer service and using a POS system preferred
  • CPR/ First Aid certified would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience at a donated goods store would be considered an asset
  • Successfully passes a criminal background check
  • Reliable, team player would be ideal
  • Steel-toe footwear required
