The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) is a leader in animal welfare in the Golden Horseshoe and
one of Ontario’s most progressive animal welfare agencies. Our aspiration is keeping pets and their
people together. Service to community supports pet parents, delivers early intervention for pet
health and wellness where pet families live, and is guided by the benefits of the human animal
bond.

The HBSPCA is a not-for-profit animal welfare organization largely supported by donors and friends
of the animals.
The Position
The Coordinator/Handyman, Facilities will report to the Director of Admin or Chief Executive
Officer. You will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the shelter’s
building, premises, vehicles and property. The Coordinator/Handyman, Facilities will oversee the
day-to- day maintenance including arranging for repairs and other external and internal
partnerships.

As the successful candidate, you will bring your “can do” attitude to fulfill the following
responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain building/site lifecycle requirements, including maintenance and capital
replacement requirements that ensure safe, accessible, and functional facilities.
• Set priorities for preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and
scheduled work for the building, site, equipment.
• Lead and plan space allocation and changes.
• Work closely with the Director of Admin or Chief Executive Officer on business continuity
planning.
• Ensure emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment, structures, and grounds on the property.
• Prepare requests for quotations, supervise contracts, for all services required to maintain
the building/site.
• Maintain inventory of equipment, manuals, and warranties.
• Engage suppliers and services as required consistent with organizational policy.
• Provide general status reports for all properties as scheduled.
• Be aware of and make use of community resources.
• Maintain excellent relationships with partners, vendors, and suppliers.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Required to regularly attend staff meetings.

Requirements & Prerequisites

Qualifications
• Demonstrated problem solving skills.
• Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills, with ability to
manage multiple projects to deadlines.
• High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
• Experience performing effectively in environments with fluctuating workloads and
competing demands on your time.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Experience in interpreting and reviewing information for accuracy.
• Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude a must.

Requirements
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• Must have a valid driver’s license (driver’s abstract required).
• Employment conditional on ability to work around pet companions.
• Agree to and submission of a clean Police Check.
• All employees and volunteers are required to be fully (COVID-19) vaccinated.
