Manager, St. Matthew’s Children’s Services
Job Description
We are currently seeking an individual to manage the operations of St. Matthew’s Children’s Services.
Our programs have been expanding over the past few years and soon we will be overseeing more than 100 spaces at three locations in Hamilton for infants to teens. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative leader with at least 5 years management experience in a child care setting. The successful candidate must also have demonstrated knowledge of emergent curriculum, Ontario’s pedagogy for the early years, “How Does Learning Happen?” be proficient with the Child Care Licensing System (CCLS) and have a deep understanding of the Policies and Procedures related to operating and maintaining a suite of children’s services and programs under the CCEYA.

St. Matthew’s Children’s Centre offers a play and inquiry based learning program, guided by the principles of “How Does Learning Happen?” and fully complies with all legislation under the authority of the Child Care and Early Years Act (2014). Requirements & Prerequisites
Do you have the following experience and credentials?
- Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario
- At least 5 years’ experience working in the field of early learning, preferably in a unionized environment
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with children, their families, staff members and community colleagues
- Demonstrated commitment to the profession of early learning, evident through on-going participation in professional development and mentoring at the Centre
- Working knowledge of Employment Standards Act, CCEYA and Public Health guidelines for child care and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with children, families, staff members and community partners.
- A health check, up-to-date immunizations, and a vulnerable sector police check
- Valid First Aid/CPR Level C certificate
Are you able to take and excel at the following responsibilities?
- Support staff members in maintaining a healthy, safe, and welcoming environment for all who enter our program: children, families, staff members, placement students, and community partners
- Work with staff members to engage with families on a regular basis, through daily/monthly communication, parent meetings, quality surveys, etc.
- Ensure daily menu plans are followed as posted, and that changes to the menu are noted on a daily basis
- Effectively manage the wait list for all age groups, arrange tours and play visits when appropriate, and fill vacancies in an efficient manner.
- Ensure the program meets/exceeds all Ministry of Education Licensing Regulations
- Maintain and ensure all COVID-19 protocols and practices are met
- Schedule staff members to meet the required teacher: child ratio and comply with the Collective Agreement
- Effectively manage the child care program budget in collaboration with the bookkeeper and Director of Finance
- Support staff members in their practice; provide monthly reports regarding the program to the Executive Director of Children’s Services
- Ensure the care and experiences provided to children by staff members align with the principles of “How Does Learning Happen?” and current best practice
- Schedule monthly staff meetings with the child care team; develop an agenda with co-workers and
- Lead and coordinate the recruiting and hiring process for all program staff
- Accurately complete and submit documentation to the City of Hamilton as required
- Identify necessary program supplies and equipment to the Executive Director; place orders upon approval
- Provide Bookkeeper with information regarding fee subsidy and parent fees
- Prepare payroll; forward to bookkeeper for approval and processing
- Work with Executive Director to prepare monthly reports for the Board of Directors.
