Maintenance Worker Full-Time Contract – 1 year
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Work as part of a team to ensure all Mission sites are properly maintained to ensure building security and a safe, healthy environment for staff, service users, and volunteers. Successful applicant must have a class G driver license and be able to provide a clean driver’s abstract.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete work orders and assigned tasks in a timely, effective and cost-efficient manner, following the direction of the Facility Services Operator
- Move furniture, paint, and operate hand/power equipment (training provided) as required
- Perform outdoor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, salting, sanding, operation of snow removal equipment and garbage removal
- Occasionally as needed, to respond to emergency maintenance concerns after normal work hours.
- Track inventory for reordering and purchase supplies as needed and directed
- Work together with the Facility Services team to foster a positive and supportive work environment, and provide the best service to MSH staff, service users and guests
- In accordance with WHMIS and Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, appropriately handle and store chemical products required and use personal protective equipment as identified
- Maintain confidentiality of clients and residents
- Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report to management
- Follow Mission Services workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times

- Additional projects and duties as assigned to advance the services of the facilities department
Requirements & Prerequisites
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant experience in maintenance, renovations, minor plumbing, minor electrical, drywall repairs, etc. an asset
- Experience using power tools and equipment handling preferred
- Understanding of building maintenance, electrical and plumbing codes preferred
- Knowledge of fire codes
- Adherence to Health and safety
- Willingness to adhere to and support Mission Services’ Mission, Vision and Values and to be willing and able to reflect these in practice
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Skill in renovations, maintenance repairs including minor plumbing, drywall repairs, etc.
- Ability to work individually or with a team
- Ability to assess the needs of each maintenance request and troubleshoot
- Basic computer skills required
- Training in minor electrical, plumbing or repair applications an asset
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team
- Able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) as required
LOCATION:
- The successful candidate will be required to work at multiple Mission Services’ sites.
COMPENSATION:
- Hourly starts at $23.43 per hour
- *Benefits after 3-months of continuous, active employment
- *Group RRSP employer matching up to 3% after one (1) year of continuous employment
REQUIREMENTS:
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Two-Step Tuberculosis Skin Test
- Steel-toed boots required (we provide these)
- Valid G license and clean driver’s abstract
