Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

This employee will work collaboratively with the DS Managers by ensuring the efficient daily operations and activities within 24-hour residential settings and supported independent living programs that support individuals with a confirmed developmental disability and who may also have a dual diagnosis and/or complex physical needs.

  • They will provide leadership, direction, and supervision to program staff in the delivery of direct support services in order to meet the needs/goals of the participants in all areas of activities of daily living, including opportunities that promote social inclusion, community participation and personal growth, in keeping with the YWCA mission, vision and values;
  • Will perform all duties and responsibilities in a productive, professional and cooperative manner which will contribute to the overall goals of the department and in keeping with general policies and guidelines of YWCA Hamilton;
  • Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of participants is maintained;
  • Meet compliance standards set by MCCSS;
  • Adhere to QAM/Regulation 299/10;
  • Familiarity with City of Hamilton Schedule 20 Guidelines & By Laws governing RCF’s (where applicable to position);
  • Provide leadership, orientation, regular supervision, performance evaluations and on-going professional development opportunities for program staff;
  • Participate in interviewing/hiring selection process of full & part-time/relief program staff;
  • Assume supervisor weekend on-call duties/vacation coverage/public holiday coverage;
  • Ensure that program staff provide direct support services with activities of daily living to participants based on their individualized needs/goals;
  • Oversee the development, planning, implementation and promotion of social inclusion and community participation of participants with recreation, spiritual and social activities;
  • To ensure that linkage and coordination of participants’ needs are provided for in cooperation with individual and other community agencies/partnerships;
  • Program and agency policies are adhered to by staff and reviewed regularly/training where necessary;
  • Oversee the facilitation of intake, assessments and demission procedures and referrals for clinical services;
  • All necessary administrative tasks are performed: payroll, scheduling, pettycash, stock-ups, and supply ordering, or other reports/tasks as assigned;
  • Purchasing coordination of purchasing: regular goods, cleaning/paper supplies, provisions, medical supplies and equipment etc.;
  • Coordinate agency vehicle maintenance and repairs as required;
  • Ensure all participants’ annual ISP’s and reviews are completed in compliance with MCCSS standards and that outcomes are reflective of residents’ desires/needs;
  • Assist with the development and ensure implementation of Behaviour Support Plans, PRN protocols, Elopement Protocols, Medical/Seizure Protocols and Crisis Plans as required, including data collection;
  • Facilitate regular team meetings, full time team paper days and supervision to encourage active problem solving, discussion of program issues, evaluations and successes;
  • Participate in cross-sector agency meetings, clinical meetings or committee/working groups as assigned;
  • Ensure that housekeeping/cleanliness/maintenance of property/equipment standards are being met;
  • As part of annual planning cycle, will develop staff training objectives and recommendations;
  • Will ensure this program department functions within the approved fiscal budget;
  • Establish positive professional relationships with staff, individuals, families, community partners or other community service providers;
  • Ensure that written records/documentation and accountability is maintained for each particiapnt and that documentation in participants’ files meet MCCSS compliance standards;
  • Provide accurate and timely reports as required; ensure all Ministry and other reporting requirements are met;
  • Participate as a member of the YWCA Developmental Services Supervisor Team and foster open communication;
  • Ensure YWCA Hamilton workplace health and safety policies and procedures are followed at all times; conduct planned inspections of the workplace; monitor all health and safety reports and act to reduce workplace hazards;
  • Report all workplace hazards and follow YWCA Hamilton health and safety policies.

Requirements & Prerequisites

 

  • EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: Post-Secondary Degree in Social Services or Human Services Field combined with supervisory work experience or Post-Secondary Diploma in Developmental Services Worker/Social Services or Human Services Field with combined with supervisory work experience;
  • Minimum 2-3 yrs Supervisory Experience in Adult Developmental Services;
  • Excellent leadership skills and demonstrated ability to problem solve;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications including but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Working from a feminist, anti-oppressive/anti-racist perspective;
  • Experience in the non-profit sector;
  • French Language Skills an Asset;
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost.
