Job Description
Position: Field Technician
Location: Hamilton Offices; projects are located across Ontario.
Compensation: Starting at $25 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday (weather dependent)
Employment Contract: Seasonal – seasons are expected to run until early December (weather dependent)

The Role
Successful applicant(s) will travel in a company vehicle or drive their personal vehicles to their assigned work site. Under the direction of experienced Project Archaeologists, the successful applicant(s) will assume responsibility for carrying out Stage 2-4 archaeological field work.
Requirements & Prerequisites
Responsibilities and Competencies:
• Complete Stage 2 – 4 field work using appropriate techniques and methods according to site type and conditions.
• Ensure that all fieldwork meets the requirements of the Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists and associated Technical Bulletins, as issued by the Ministry.
• Extensive excavation tasks, including excavation with shovels, carrying heavy buckets and screening for archaeological materials.
• Perform long distance field walking and test pit surveys in dense woodland locations and uneven soil conditions.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
• Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in extreme heat.
• Willingness to travel within Ontario, must be available for out-of-town work for extended periods.
• Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude.
• Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions.
Requirements:
• Related post-secondary diploma/degree considered an asset
• 6 – 12 months of related field work experience an asset
• Capability to perform manual labour in outdoor environments, prolonged walking and standing on various terrain in a wide range of outdoor conditions.
• Must be able to perform extensive manual labour for long periods of time in extreme environment conditions.
• Ability to drive to project sites or meet at a designated ARA office to join the carpool is required.
• Eligibility to be a crew carpool driver (25 years and older with a Class “G” license) considered a strong asset.
