Job Description

Located at the head of Lake Ontario and within the municipalities of Burlington and Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada and one of the nation’s earliest nature sanctuaries. Comprising some 2700 acres of protected wetlands, botanical collections, parkland and display gardens, and within easy access of millions of nature-starved urban citizens, RBG dedicates its expertise in horticulture, conservation, science and education to connect people, plants and place for the purpose of nurturing and preserving healthy growing life on our planet. Responsibilities:

  • The Visitor Experience Host is the first point of contact visitors will have with the organization. A professional, friendly and knowledgeable interaction is crucial to ensuring a positive visitor experience from the outset.
  • Ensure RBG mission, and vision are communicated proactively and effectively to visitors.
  • Assist visitors both in person and on the phone, providing information and/or working with internal/external parties to ensure closed loop communication.
  • Greet visitors as they enter, offer information on current programs and events, as well as provide information pertaining to their visit.
  • Collect and process admissions, input visitor information using an electronic admission system and ensure visitors have the proper materials to enter the Gardens. Responsible for promoting RBG membership and other programs as required.
  • Assist with special events, programs, survey/ data collection, administrative/ reception duties and other activities as needed.

 


Requirements & Prerequisites

Requirements:

  • Passionate about connecting people, plants and place. Interest in the environment, conservation, horticulture, science is an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills, going above and beyond to provide a legendary visitor experience. Experience cash handling and working with debit/credit terminal an asset. Proficiency in basic computer applications and POS systems.
  • Possess strong self-motivation skills and thrive in a fast-paced, challenging work environment.
  • Must be able to work well in a team atmosphere as well as comfortable working independently.
  • Must be able to work days, on public holidays, evenings and weekends.
  • CPR and first-aid certification is an asset.
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
  • A police records check will be required of the successful applicant at their expense.
