RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for leading all marketing and public relations (PR) activities for MIP and its public image with the aim of increasing media presence and overall awareness. This position will help craft strategies and design campaigns to maintain or improve MIP’s reputation and credibility. Monitoring media coverage, using multiple communication channels and media platforms to promote MIP’s image and brand will be a key function of this role.

 

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Lead the organization in all aspects of marketing and PR activities and strategies in order to manage MIP’s public image including, but not limited to:

  • Work with the Director of Business Development to create and implement a marketing strategy that aligns with MIP’s strategic goals and create a corresponding budget and tactics.
  • Produce valuable, engaging content for the website and all marketing collateral that attracts key target groups.
  • Maintain and execute MIP’s branding strategy.
  • Work with the Director of Business Development to plan and execute publicity strategies and marketing campaigns and be responsible to execute them to promote MIP’s activities.
  • Manage MIP’s interaction with its stakeholders, the media, and the general public.
  • Oversee/draft and distribute all of MIP’s public communications and marketing material destined for the media, stakeholders and the general public including but not limited to: advertising, hard copy brochures, press releases, website, social media platforms, e-commerce storefront, fact sheets, media invites, presentations, and SWAG.
  • Handle and supervise all PR aspects in a potential crisis situation.
  • Prevent and/or mitigate any negative media coverage as much as possible.
  • Measure, analyze, and report on the performance of marketing campaigns, gain insight and assess against goals and report this to the team and the Board.
  • Stay informed on new promotional opportunities.
  • Coordinate interview requests and organize press conferences:
    • Arrange for media coverage of events/conferences/announcements; and
    • Assist with planning and execution of press launches or other promotional events.
  • Follow the activities of MIP in order to adapt MIP’s image to reflect the current activities, as well as the latest industry developments through market research.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES:

 Maintain an up-to-date press list by collecting and editing the contact information of Journalists and other members of the media.

  • Develop and cultivate strong ties with the media to help generate visibility opportunities:
    • liaise with journalists, influencers, and other members of the media; and
    • pitch and secure the necessary media coverage.
  • Experiment with a variety of organic and paid acquisition channels like content creation, content curation, pay per click campaigns, event management, publicity, social media, lead generation campaigns, copywriting, graphic designers, performance analysis and other relevant consultants as required.
  • Manage the sponsorship activities that MIP will engage in as well as selecting the appropriate events to attend to leverage MIP to the appropriate audience.
  • Attend networking or media events as well as meetings with partner organizations to discuss the relevant aspects of MIP’s marketing and PR campaigns and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with the MIP’s bylaws, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the role.
  • Assist with various projects from time to time as requested.

Annual Salary Range: $72,000 – $100,000

Additional remuneration and incentives include: health and dental benefits, life insurance, travel insurance, RRSP matching, performance bonus of up to 10% annual salary, paid time off, on-site fitness facility, company events and more.

  • Remarkable organizational skills and ability to work under pressure while working simultaneously on multiple projects in a deadline driven environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of media needs and how to cultivate positive media relationships.
  • An excellent tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms.
  • Able to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely manner exercising good judgment and critical thinking.
  • A high degree of professionalism, confidence and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Able to generate timely high-quality reports on key performance indicators.
  • Experienced at budget preparation as it relates to the marketing plan.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and marketing specific software.
  • Ability to work a flexible hours when required to meet deadlines.
  • A cooperative team player with the ability to work independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPEIRENCE

This position requires a post-secondary diploma or degree in the areas of Marketing, Business Administration, or Communications however relevant, substantial (5-10 years) experience in the marketing field is also an asset.
