Family Support Worker
Temporary Part Time (6 Month Contract)
Responsibilities:
Provide primary support to families residing in the emergency shelter. Assessment, intake, housing based case management, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, accompanying residents on apartment viewings, facilitating long term housing success, and linkages with other community services. Maintain safety and security of the shelter facility including hourly facility checks, answering phones and doors, and apartment inspections. Residential tasks including unit turnovers, unit cleaning, cleaning of common spaces, preparing coffee and breakfast, and house laundry.
Work Conditions:
Most work is done in the emergency shelter. Driving to apartment viewings and lease signings is required. Must be willing and able to assist in a hands-on capacity with residents. Time management skills are necessary in a high energy, changing environment.
Individual and team problem-solving capability is essential. Pro-active approach to service provision. Ability to work independently.
Qualifications:
Preferred candidates for the above positions will be knowledgeable of and have experience working with a range of issues impacting families including homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use. Candidates will have an understanding of and be comfortable working from a client-centered, housing first perspective. Experience working in a residential setting is preferred. Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset. CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required. Valid G license required.
Hours of Work:
Shifts are a mix of Day shifts (7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), Afternoon shifts (3 p.m. to 11 p.m., 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.) and Overnight shifts (11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and 12 a.m. to 8 a.m.). Shifts are scheduled on Friday nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and Stat Holidays. Must be available 3 out of 4 weekends. Option to pick up additional hours as available.
