Job Description
Good Shepherd Centres Hamilton, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, strives to enhance the quality of life for all who seek assistance and support in our community. A Temporary Full Time position at Community Support Services for Women and Children (30 Pearl St. N. Hamilton, ON L8R 2Y8) currently exists in the role of:
TRANSITIONAL SUPPORT WORKER
Hours of work: up to 80 hours, every 2 weeks, initially weekdays, evenings and weekends as well as extended hours and overnight.
Reporting to the Program Manager of Housing Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for respectful, appropriate case management services for women-headed households who qualify for the Second Stage Housing and Transitional Housing and Support programs; as well as group facilitation and community outreach. The incumbent must be able to work independently and in collaboration with residential and non-residential programs. The incumbent will be responsible for the provision of service to clients of the Second Stage Housing program.
The Transitional and Housing Support Worker has specific targets that need to be achieved with monthly reporting requirements. The successful candidate has an eye for detail and demonstrated ability to work independently with a high caseload. Strong time management and organizational skills are required. Experience with group facilitation is an asset.
Applicants must possess a thorough knowledge of issues impacting women and their children including abuse, child witnessing, homelessness, mental illness, poverty and substance use. She will have demonstrated computer skills, Experience working in a residential setting is preferred. A demonstrated commitment to the mission values of availability, flexibility, adaptability, hospitality and dignity is essential. French language and/or a second language is an asset. Applicants also require a related post-secondary education and C.P.R. certification (or willingness to be certified). Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license is required and ability to drive Good Shepherd vehicles.
