Job Description

Good Shepherd Centre Hamilton, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, strives to enhance the quality of life for all who seek assistance and support in our community. An opportunity currently exists in our Good Shepherd Centres Assisted Living Program at the Bishop Tonnos Seniors Building located at 10 Pearl Street North, Hamilton in the role of:

Homemaking Assistant (Seniors Services)
Casual Relief Position

The successful applicant will work to provide various homemaker and other support services to seniors living independently in the community.

Job Duties include:
• Performing homemaking activities which include (but are not limited to): vacuuming, dusting, sweeping or mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linens, cleaning bathrooms
• Laundry assistance
• Meal planning and preparation
• Assisting with shopping, errands and appointments
• Wellness checks and support

Qualifications Required:
1) Experience as a Homemaker/Companion (in homes or facilities)
2) Demonstrated interest/experience in working with seniors
3) Able to work independently and also as part of a team
4) Demonstrated flexibility in availability and assigned duties
5) Strong verbal and written communication skills
6) Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
7) Basic computer skills
8) Ability to work within an anti-oppressive framework

A demonstrated commitment to the mission values of availability, flexibility, adaptability, hospitality and dignity is essential. A second language is considered an asset.
