We’re Hiring a Workshop Facilitator

Employment Hamilton (EH) has been delivering employment and training services to clients and employers since 1972. Funded by Employment Ontario / Fedcap, EH offers Employment Counselling, Better Jobs Ontario and a large Resource and Information Centre.

As Workshop Facilitator, you would organize and facilitate POP – Power of Possible – a series of half-day workshops run over a 2-week period or 5 full days. Retention Support includes contacting employed clients to support their success. Both roles require innovative thinking, good judgement, humour and empathy to motivate clients through the steps to ongoing success.

The POP workshop is run about every 4-6 weeks.  Retention responsibilities occur in between POP workshops.  POP Facilitator training is provided by our funders with ongoing support available. 

Workshop Facilitator responsibilities include:

  • Engaging and dynamic workshop facilitation (both in person and via Zoom) to groups of job seekers; able to keep participants engaged and motivated to contribute
  • Positive and enthusiastic when sharing knowledge with others; able to connect with job seekers 
  • Collaborate with counsellors regarding their clients participating in the workshops to update on their progress, problem solve, find opportunities and access other resources 
  • Working with the counselling team to identify candidates, contact and arrange workshop participation with clients
  • Applying and continually enhancing knowledge of the Hamilton Labour Market, trends, tools, resources, programs and opportunities
  • Liaising with community partners / agencies and accessing resources to assist with successful outcomes ensuring current knowledge of all resources is maintained
  • Problem solving tech connection issues with workshop participants
  • Motivating and supporting job seekers through making linkages to other supports as required 
  • Communicating, in both individual and team settings, opportunities, ideas and information to assist with the successful outcomes of all clients and goals of the organization

Retention responsibilities include:  

  • Supporting the Retention Coordinator by contacting clients in the retention phase via phone, email and text, to verify their employment status for documentation in CARES (software)  
  • Supporting clients with job retention advice, upskilling and other supports as needed
  • Supporting clients as needed with financial supports during the retention phase to assist with employment retention
  • Updating email lists, sending out email communications, documenting same
  • Communicating, in both individual and team settings, opportunities, ideas and information to assist with the successful outcomes of all clients and goals of the organization

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully and professionally carry out the responsibilities listed above
  • Excellent facilitation and client service skills to successfully support and motivate clients / workshop participants
  • Resourceful, organized and outgoing with a sincere interest in helping others
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with the Hamilton area including business sectors and community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to use excellent judgment, establish rapport and communicate effectively  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office  
  • Ability to organize and host Zoom meetings including troubleshooting attendee issues
  • Enthusiastic team player with strong time management skills
  • Ability to clearly document and accurately maintain all records and data management systems
  • Creative and adaptable, with the ability to learn and apply new skills quickly including teaching others by explaining key concepts and engaging the job seekers’ commitment to ongoing development
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of our usual office hours as required for the retention component

  • EH is a non-profit organization. Starting salary is $880 weekly.  We offer a comprehensive, employer paid, benefits package after 4 months. Usual weekly hours M-F 35.5 hours.
